Ego is a two-page rpg that immediately kicks its spatial limitations aside and goes for an epic tone. You're a sword-and-sorcery style hero (or a science fantasy hero, or a golden age comics hero...) and you have a grand, overarching quest.
You also have some stats, and they're acts of self-improvement and self-care.
I wasn't expecting this, and it woke me right up.
You play by performing your stats (working out, cooking, taking time to rest, focusing on projects, whatever you choose,) and you level up when your stats have been trained enough.
At level 10, you win.
It's simple, but conceptually tight, and it frames rest and improvement as a heroic struggle, even when they don't always feel that way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who has projects they want to work on, or who has trouble getting the ball rolling on motivation. It's a great game with a really good intent behind it, and it has solid writing and layout to boot.
Minor Issues:
-Clearing all XP marks from all stats when you've gotten only two to 10 marks disincentivizes working on more than two stats at a time. It might be better to only clear stats at 10+ marks when you level.
Thanks for making this - I love the concept and I'm sure I will have fun for quite some time :-)
I want to start playing but I don't understand the meaning of a few of the stats. I'm assuming the brain is intelligence, the muscle is strength, and the heart is constitution, or something similar...
They're intentionally left to your interpretation here, for my personal game, the brain represents mental health, the heart represents emotional health, etc. I felt like giving the stats hard names would limit the sorts of activities some might assign to them. Hope this helps!
Beautiful concept for a game, much respect. <3
Thank you so much!
